Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Program Training Opportunities

Peer Recovery Specialists are required to complete 46 training hours across the domains of advocacy, wellness & recovery, mentoring & education, and ethics. All certified Peer Recovery Specialists are required to complete 20 training hours, with a least 6 hours of required ethics, for re-certification. 

Peer Recovery Specialist Integrated Mental Health & Substance Use Integrated Training (46 hours)  
This 46-hour substance use and mental health integrated training is the first step towards becoming a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) in the State of Rhode Island. Classes are held throughout the year - during the day and in the evening - in multiple locations.

Introduction to Recovery Oriented System of Care & Peer Based Recovery Supports Services Training (2.5 hours)  
This training will introduce all partners to recovery oriented system of care approaches and will introduce the role of the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and the delivery of peer based recovery support services. This training is a requirement for CPRS Supervisors.

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Supervisor Training (6.5 hours)  
This training will provide CPRS Supervisors with information, strategies and approaches in providing supervision to peer recovery specialists delivering peer based recovery support services and preparing for working with Medicaid reimbursement.  This training is a requirement for CPRS Supervisors supervising CPRS under Medicaid.  Key focus areas include: intro supervision approaches; competencies and standards of care; trauma informed; self care; cultural competence; ethics and boundaries; documentation and quality assurance.
