       ANNOUNCEMENTS

Are You Losing RI Works Cash Benefits Because
You Reached Your Time Limit?

You may still be able to get cash assistance by asking for “hardship benefits.”

You may be eligible for “hardship benefits” if you:

  • Can work, but can’t find a job.  You will be referred to a job search program at the Network RI One Stop Center.
  • Can’t work because you are disabled.  If you have a temporary disability, you will need to follow your doctor’s orders.  If you have a permanent disability you will be referred to the Office of Rehabilitative Services.
  • Can’t work because you are a caretaker and need to be home to take care of a disabled child or spouse.
  • Can’t work because you are homeless (living in shelter, on street or temporarily living with another family).  You will need to do a housing search.
  • Can’t work because of a domestic violence situation. You will meet with a Family Violence Option Counselor.

Your RIte Care and SNAP benefits should continue even if your RI Works cash benefits stop, and while you receive hardship benefits.

If you want hardship benefits, you need to fill out a one-page application and give it to your DHS worker. You may also need to provide other documents (like a doctor’s form if you are disabled).
